Hunting the Bays De Noc Area

With over a million acres of state and federal land, hunting opportunities are endless in the Bays de Noc area. Let's take a look at what's available on a seasonal basis!

Spring

As Mother Nature releases its icy grip from the North Country, hunters that were lucky enough to draw a tag, take to the woods after the keen and wary turkey. The wild turkey population has been expanding with the recent mild winters and the chance to bag a trophy gobbler is excellent!

It's an awesome feeling being decked out in camo., sitting underneath a tree, watching the sun come up on the frosty morning, and calling in a wild turkey to within a distance of 20 yards! Michigan's wild turkey season usually runs from the second week in April through May 31st.

Come experience a turkey hunt in the Bay de Noc area, you'll find plenty of friendly people willing to help you out in your quest for a long-bearded gobbler.

Summer

Hunting is somewhat limited during the summer season in Michigan. There is an open season for crows, which runs from August 1st through September 30th, with no bag limit. However, this is a great time for sportsmen and women to sharpen their skills at a range or official trap and skeet facility. Orchard Hills Sporting Clays, just west of Escanaba offers great sport for all.

Fall

This is the much-anticipated time of year for all hunters! Delta County and the whole Bays de Noc area supports great habitat for many different species.

September 10th sees the opening of the Michigan Black Bear season, and each year some of the states largest bruins are taken from Delta County.

On September 15th, small game season opens and hunters take to the woods in search of the fast-flying ruffed grouse, squirrels, and both cottontail and snowshoe rabbits.

October 1st sees the opening of Michigan's archery deer season, and there's also a popular duck and goose season. On November 15th, well…that's a Yooper Holiday! This marks the popular opening of the firearms deer season, which runs through November 30th. There is also a popular black-powder season that usually takes place the second week of December. Delta County is one of the more popular destinations for Michigan deer hunters. It's endless amount of public lands, and very high success rate, brings people back year after year!

Winter

The Bays de Noc area also has many hunting opportunities throughout the winter season. Not only is there some great rabbit and coyote hunting, but there's also a very popular bobcat season that runs from December 1st through March 1st. Raccoons and fox can also be targeted at this time. Come enjoy a hunt in the Bays de Noc area, we guarantee a pleasant experience!
