At what age do you need a fishing license?
To fish in Michigan, if you are 17 years old you must purchase a fishing license.
Anyone younger than 17 does not need a license but must follow all the rules and regulations of fishing.

Walleye Season opens May 15 and closes March 15
Northern Pike open all year, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass opens Saturday before Memorial Day and closes December 31, Perch open year around.


How big a boat do I need to fish Little Bay de Noc?
Little Bay de Noc is unique. The upper portion of the Bay is sheltered from the big water and is more like an inland lake, while the lower portion opens to the Bay of Green Bay and can feel like big water at times. The size of boat is up to you. Its not uncommon to see 14 foot boats fishing along side 23 footers. The most common size is 16 to 18 foot. With the many access sites throughout Little Bay de Noc there is always a place to launch regardless of the wind or weather.


How many walleye can I keep?
The possession limit for Bays de Noc is 5 fish. This is 5 game fish in combination. A limit of 5 fish in any combination counts as your possession limit.You are allowed to transport 1 days limit only. Trout and Salmon are not counted in this. Consult the Michigan DNR regulation manual for Trout and Salmon.


How much is a fishing license?

Resident:

  • 24 hour (Good for all species for any designated 24 hour period) $7.00
  • Yearly all species (good for all species) $28.00

Non-Resident:

  • 24 hour(Good for all species for any designated 24 hour period) $7.00
  • Yearly all species (good for all species)$42.00
  • Yearly restricted (good for all species EXCEPT trout and salmon) $34.00
  • A 24-Hour license is valid for any designated 24-hour period

  • Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass, 14 inches
  • Northern Pike, 24 inches (limit 2)
  • Walleye, 15 inches


What do I do with the tagged walleye?
You can turn the tag into the DNR office, send it to the DNR office at 6833 US 2, 41 & M35 Gladstone, MI 49837 or call them at 906-786-2354. The DNR also has a website you can record you tagged Walleye at: http://www.michigandnr.com/taggedfish/

This is very important for the fishery to get this information to them. Information needed: Length, Weight, Species, When caught and where. If you don't remove the tag, record the tag number and send, call or send it on the site.

They will send you a nice report about your Walleye, when and where it was tagged, how much it has grown.

This is a very common question that is asked. We have a very unique area for forecasting weather, so a lot of times we can not answer this very accurately.  Your options are look at the weather forecast for this area and then call a local lodging or bait and tackle shop in the area.  We know our area the best. We aren't 100%, but it should help you to decide.


When is Free Fishing Weekend?
Michigan offers Free Fishing Weekend, February 19 and 20, 2011 and June 11 and 12, 2011.  No fishing license is required for these dates, you must still follow all rules and regulation associated with fishing.

Up in the left corner, click "Login"
Next screen, click "not registered member,create an new account", you have to register. Next window,"accept"
Fill out the form and click "Submit"
You are now added to the data base

Next screen, user name and password, fill this out (this is where you will start next time you login)click "login"
Next screen, click "Michigan"
Next screen, click "Bay de Noc Area"
Now you can post a report.
At the bottom of the report you will see "click to choose file"
New box comes up, click jpeg, next click browse. Look for your picture file, click open on you file folder.
"make sure you picture isn't too big,you may have to resize it"
Also make sure your picture is a "jpeg"
Click upload and wait for it to upload.
Your file name will go into the attachment box.(you won't see your picture until it is posted)
When you finish logout.


How to register as a Member?

Click "Accept"
Complete the registation form
Click submit
An email will be sent to you with your password

Then login and go to whatever board you want to post
You can change your password by logging in and going to the User Menu link.
